CAPTN FUTURE

In autumn 2019, the BMBF called for the future cluster competition “Clusters4future”, in which the Kiel CAPTN initiative participated with an idea sketch. Out of 137 applications, CAPTN and a further 15 projects were invited to submit a detailed implementation concept in March 2020. The implementation concept of the “CAPTN Future” cluster submitted at the end of October 2020 is the result of a six-month process developed by the partners from May to October 2020.

The aim of CAPTN Future is to establish a regional value chain from research to market-ready products and services related to the realization of clean urban autonomous water-land mobility chains. Answers are given to basic mobility questions for metropolises on waterways and coasts, products and services are developed and offered worldwide.

A current presentation of Kiel’s scientific competencies in the CAPTN competence fields of the integrated mobility chain can be downloaded here: Directory: Wissenschaftliche Publikationen, Projekte, Wettbewerbsbeiträge, Stand Oktober 2020 (in German only).

Finanzierung

The future cluster is to be financed from the own resources of the partners and funding from the BMBF future cluster competition “clusters4future” (Guideline for the promotion of regional innovation networks: “Future Cluster Initiative”, Federal Gazette of August 14, 2019).

The BMBF has already supported the development of an implementation concept from May to October 2020 with more than 100,000 euros. Up to 7 of the 15 implementation concepts submitted will be awarded prizes. The winners will each receive up to €5 million in funding per year for three funding periods of three years each (€45 million for 2021-2030).
